Hong Kong, China (AHN) – A movie touted as the world’s first 3D porn film has broken a box office record. The adult movie has outsold the James Cameron directed blockbuster Avatar on it’s opening day. Moviegoers apparently rushed to see “3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy.”

It opened to packed movie houses across Hong Kong, reports The Sun. It took in $362,800 its first day in Hong Kong, topping the 2009 3-D sci-fi epic which earned $342,644.

The $3 million Cantonese-language film set in the Ming Dynasty features full nudity and camouflaged sex scenes.

Producer Stephen Shiu said, “We met people’s expectations. People have always thought that you need 3-D technology for this kind of content. So people were very curious.”

The 2011 film is actually a remake of a similarly titled “Sex and Zen” made in 1991 which still remains as Hong Kong’s highest-grossing adult movie of all time.
