I’m Bob Boswell. You probably remember my wife, Beth, and I from Western Sizzlin. We operated it successfully for nearly 22 years. We created hundreds of jobs, provided nearly $10 million in payroll and $12 million in tax base. Now, like so many other small businesses, ours is gone. A lady recently asked, “Why should I vote for you when you couldn’t run your own business?” I answered that I wish more people had experienced owning a small business, creating jobs and serving the community. Maybe then they’d understand the thousand ways that government undermines small business. Our story isn’t that unique. A few years ago, the Platte River Bridge on U.S. 85 was closed for repairs. The six-week project took six months. We felt the slowdown immediately. We later felt another downturn when the state passed new oil and gas regulations. When the housing bubble burst and the economy collapsed, our sales collapsed. Our property values collapsed. The ba Copyright 2010 The Greeley Publishing Co.. All rights reserved.
