New Delhi, India (AHN) – Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh jointly announced on Thursday after a meeting in New Delhi that their countries will raise bilateral trade volume to $100 billion per year by 2015. The volume is more than double the value of goods exchanged by both countries in the last fiscal year.
March 2009 to March 2010, bilateral trade amounted to $42.4 billion. In the first 10 months of this year, Chinese exports to India reached nearly $33 billion.
Wen promised to allow more exports from India, its biggest trade partner, to boost regional economic activity. These exports would be pharmaceuticals, information technology and agricultural products.
Trade cooperation was the main agenda of the meeting between the leaders of the world’s two fastest growing major economies. Political disputes hounding China and India were not discussed during the meeting.
The visiting Wen, who was in India in 2005, proceeds to Pakistan on Friday.
