Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday urged Americans to leave Libya immediately and offered help from the Obama Administration in doing so.

Addressing journalists at a joint press conference with Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota, Clinton said, “Everything will be on the table,” stressing that the U.S. is examining “all possible options” to respond to the violence of the Gaddafi regime but added that the U.S. wants to consult with other countries to better evaluate a “fluid” and “uncertain” situation in Libya.

Denouncing the violence in Libya, Clinton said, “We deeply regret the loss of life that has already occurred. We’ve joined with the international community to speak with one voice because as your question implied, first we have to get the international community together because there is no doubt in my mind that this is now the moment for the international community to act together and to that end we joined a very strong United Nations security council statement yesterday.”

Referring to actions like sanctions under consideration, Clinton told journalists, “We are joining with the rest of the world in sending a clear message to the Libyan government that violence is unacceptable and that the Libyan government will be held accountable for the actions that it is taking.”

Earlier the U.S. top diplomat cited non-violent methods of Gandhi and King to explain the global happenings in the quest of democratic principles and change of regimes.

Speaking at the “Historically Black Colleges and Universities Foreign Policy Briefing,” Secretary Clinton expressed on behalf of Americans, “very great admiration for the young people in Egypt, for their peaceful, nonviolent demonstration.”

Calling it an example “of how one brings about profound transformational change without picking up a gun,” Clinton said, “It gives a lie to the extremist narrative in the world that somehow the only way you could get change is at the end of a gun barrel.”

“We are fully immersed in trying to determine how we can best support the aspirations of people across the region, for their governments to be more open, accountable, and responsive, to make sure they have a stronger voice in the affairs of their countries, and that they are treated fairly and with dignity,” said Secretary Clinton.
