Iran Blasts European Firms Over Fuel Refusal

AHN News Staff

Tehran, Iran (AHN) – Iran has accused Western companies of refusing fuel to Iranian aircraft in Europe, describing the act illegal under international law. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Tehran would take necessary actions against such measures.

“We will definitely not tolerate such inappropriate actions by some companies, and measures to confront such actions are on our agenda,” he said. Talking at a news conference, Mehmanparast said some Western companies had adopted “inappropriate measures.”

He suggest the governments to stop such practices.

“We advise their governments that first of all this act is beyond the relevant regulations, even beyond those of the illegal U.N. Security Council’s resolution, and under international law it is an unlawful act,” he stated.

Mehmanparast’s comments came less than a week after the Washington Post reported that BP, Royal Dutch Shell and several other major oil firms had scrapped fuel contracts with Iran Air, forcing aircraft to make fuel stops in Germany and Austria.

French Total and Austria’s OMV are still providing refueling services unlike Amsterdam, London and Stockholm.
