Japan justice minister set to resign

Japan’s justice minister is set to resign over a gaffe that critics say made light of parliamentary deliberations, media said on Monday, as the struggling government seeks to push an extra budget through a divided parliament. The latest fuss to hit Prime Minister Naoto Kan’s government has threatened to delay enactment of a 4.4 trillion yen ($52.69 billion) budget to bolster an economy beset by deflation and a strong yen. Justice Minister Minoru Yanagida has firmed up his intention to step down, public broadcaster NHK reported without citing a source. (Reuters)
