NY, NY, United States (AHN Sports) – The NFL sent an update on workplace conduct policy to all 32 teams Wednesday, stressing the league’s belief that “all employees and associates of the NFL have the right to work in a positive environment” free from all forms of harassment, intimidation and discrimination.
“Each of us must fully understand just how powerful an impact our own personal behavior can have on those we work with,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, “and why the individual decisions we make within our workplace must be good ones. It is not enough to stand behind the strong values of the NFL; we must stand for them.”
The policy update is likely in response to claims of mistreatment and suspected harassment that mostly involved the New York Jets.
Prior to the start of the season, claims were made that members of the Jets sent cat calls the way of extremely attractive Spanish lanugage reporter Ines Sainz. Later in the season, reports surfaced Brett Favre sent former Jets gameday hostess Jen Sturger lewd photos during his time there in 2008.
The memo clearly defines the workplace and outlines the league’s expectations in the workplace., including what is considered sexual harassment
The objectives are clearly stated on NFL.com:
1. Providing a clear definition of sexual harassment and detailed examples of illegal and inappropriate behavior.
2. Ensuring that each member of the NFL fully understands that sexual harassment and discrimination are against the law.
3. Seeking to build league-wide awareness of the NFL’s policies regarding sexual harassment and other discrimination.
4. Providing clear and acceptable workplace-behavior guidelines for all NFL employees.
5. Explaining how, when and where to report sexual harassment.
The policy goes into affect immediately. All employees of NFL teams, players and coaches, as well as members of the media, are required to abide by the rules.
