Marco Island, FL, United States (AHN Sports) – NFL Player’s Association executive director DeMaurice Smith announced Friday at a player’s summit he will give up his $1.8 million salary until the NFL and its labor union settle on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The NFLPA decertified last Friday following numerous sessions of stalled negotiations and the NFL underwent its first lockout since 1987. A total of 10 players subsequently sued, asking a Minneapolis court to halt the lockout.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and general counsel Jeff Pash cut their salaries to $1, from $10 million and and around $5.5 million, respectively.

Some of the issues that have been raised include a rookie wage scale, an 18-game regular season and financial transparency on the part of the owners.
