Three students shot and wounded by Puntland soldier in Somalia

Galka’yo, Puntland, Somalia (AHN) – A soldier of Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland opened fire at the gate of a BERDECAD intermediate and secondary school in the center of Galka’yo, Mudug, injuring at least three students, witnesses said.

Liban Hajji Mohammed, a resident at Galka’yo who witnessed the incident, told AHN by telephone that locals were shocked after the soldier shot the students during lunchtime break at the school. Mohammed went on to say that local residents rushed the victims and took to a medical center in the town, saying that one of injured students was in serious condition after a bullet hit him in the head.

The shooting came after the soldier and one of the pupils insulted each other, according to a witness.

The killer soldier escaped from the spot immediately after the incident and the school administration has yet to release any comments about the shooting.
