Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines (AHN) – The president, vice president and senate president of the Philippines got high approval ratings in a Pulse Asia survey released Monday. Only four other key officials received high approval ratings in the survey done the last week of October with 1,200 respondents.

President Benigno Aquino III got the highest rating of 79 percent, followed by Vice President Jejomar Binay at 78 percent and Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile 61 percent.

The four other officials with high ratings are:

  • Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman – 65 percent
  • Justice Secretary Leila de Lima – 60 percent
  • Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim – 55 percent
  • Health Secretary Enrique Ona – 52 percent.

Two other major officials got almost the same level of approval and disapproval. They were House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. with a 45 percent approval and 43 percent disapproval rating, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona who received a similar 45 percent approval and disapproval rating.

Aquino’s spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, said the high approval rating secured by the president is an indicator that Filipinos appreciate his efforts in fulfilling his election promise to battle corruption and poverty.

Binay spokesman Joey Salgado added that the high ratings are an indicator that Filipinos have a positive outlook about their future under the present administration.
