Cairo, Egypt (AHN) – United Nations’ special representative for Somalia, Augustine Mahiga, and Wafaa Basseem, Egypt’s foreign minister assistant, on Thursday met in Cairo and discussed the latest issues about war-torn Somalia.

The talks focused on ways to support the transitional federal government of Somalia until the end of the transitional period in August 2011, and to aid them in achieving their main goals of accelerating the process of national reconciliation in Somalia, according to the Al Youm7 website.

The discussions also shed a light on how to expand the government to include the various political factions and clans as well as completion of the process of making the country’s constitution and reaching lasting peace in Somalia.

Basseem said the Egyptian government is ready to help Somalis by providing humanitarian assistance.

The two officials talked about the issue of piracy and how to prevent it, agreeing that the main factor is the economic condition of the country.
