[1] Looks like someone in Carl Paladino’s [2] camp realized what most have known for awhile. His mouth is no asset. Late yesterday afternoon, Paladino issued an apology for his comments about gays and lesbians.The New York Republican candidate for governor has been in the middle of a political firestorm since Sunday. He gave a speech to a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders [3] where he said God didn’t create gay “and that’s not the example that we should be showing our children.” He also vowed to fight any legal recognition of gay relationships, civil unions included. On Monday and Tuesday, Paladino spent all of his interview time putting dirt on his political grave. There were complaints about Speedos, gay pride parades, and the parenting skills of opponent Andrew Cuomo. Apparently the guy with two families didn’t think his Democratic challenger should have his daughters near anything gay pride-ish. Anyways, check out the apology. Paladino admits errors in his campaign and life (really?). Blames everything on Sunday to a script that was handed to him. Like President Obama he’s not for same sex marriage, but supports civil unions. Paladino would like to see a vote on the matter and will defer to the people’s wishes. “I am 100% against discrimination of any group. I oppose discrimination of any kind in housing, credit, insurance benefits or visitation.” He talked a lot of junk for awhile, but this is a positive step for a guy whose campaign is based on bluster and bullying.
